Benefits of Participating in Quality Matters

Quality Matters Monterey County is committed to supporting all types of early childhood educators with resources and information to increase their program quality. Educators who participate in Quality Matters will receive:

  • Assistance completing an initial program self-assessment, which will give you an understanding of your program’s quality practices and areas of strength, and will support continuous improvement.

  • Technical assistance, including professional development and training opportunities, which you can tailor to fit your needs.

  • Marketing materials to help promote your participation to families, colleagues, and other community members.

  • Recognition of your commitment to quality, including professional development activities, financial incentives for QRIS participation, and celebration events.

What Does Participation Look Like?

What Does Quality Matters Measure?

Quality ratings and improvement supports are based on California’s QRIS matrix, which sets standards for early learning programs in the following areas:

  • Child development and school readiness, including appropriate learning activities and use of child observation tools and developmental and health screenings

  • Teachers and teaching, including lead teacher/family child care home educator qualifications and effectiveness of teacher-child interactions

  • Program and environment, including ratios and group size, and center director qualifications

To learn more about QRIS, and what to expect from participating in Quality Matters, contact Eliza Gomez, the Quality Matters Monterey County QRIS Coordinator.
